About the Event

Once a year, we at Big Buck Hunter pull out the stops and host an epic event designed to put our most dedicated players to the test. Now in it's third year, the World Championship is back and bigger than ever!

It all starts with a revamped Online Qualifying Tournament that runs August 1st - 29th. The top 16 in each region will be invited to Chicago for our first-ever 2-day World Championship Weekend on October 1st and 2nd.

All four of the Regional Finals will be held on October 1st followed by the 2010 World Championship on October 2nd. If you've never attended the World Championship, you owe it to yourself to make this your first. Beyond the Big Buck games, the tournament, the Big Buck Girls, and the huge prizes, this event is created with you, our players, in mind.

It's a huge party that allows players from across the country to meet, eat, and drink. Whether you win or lose, you will not walk away from the weekend disappointed.

And let's not forget that $10,000 top prize! You can start your quest for it at your nearest online game this August. Good luck!

Event History

The Third Annual Big Buck Hunter Pro World Championship brings with it, a legacy. One family has proved to us all that consistent victory in our monthly online tournaments does not necessarily make a World Champion. That family is the Bergs.

They may look similar, but Tournament Play and Shootout are totally different games. The introduction of a competing player makes a big difference, especially when that player is among the best in the world. Jerad and Nick Berg know this and choose to do the majority of their training in Shootout Mode, and it's hard to argue with the results.

See Results from 2009

Will you be the one the end the Berg dynasty? There's only one way to find out. Get hunting.

How to Qualify

1) If you don't already have a Player Account, register one by visiting an online game location between August 1st and August 29th and select the Online Regional Qualifying Tournament. Follow the simple on-screen instructions and use your legal name – this is crucial to being eligible for the following steps. Your account will now be accessible from online Big Buck Hunter Pro and Big Buck Safari locations anywhere in the country.

2) Play the Online Regional Qualifying Tournament from August 1st – 29th at your local online Big Buck Hunter Pro Open Season location. The tournament will consist of two treks (10 sites + 2 bonus rounds).

3) Through either High Score or Cumulative Score, shoot your way into your region's top 16. The top 10 spots are reserved for High Score players and require a 10-game minimum to make it onto the leaderboard. Cumulative Score players will fill out 11th place and onward. A player's high score will always outweigh their cumulative score.

4) Keep an eye on the leaderboard! The regions are big this year and the competition will be fierce. All scores will be reflected. Players can play as many times as they like.

5) The top 16 players from each region will qualify for the Regional Final, hosted on October 1st in Chicago. They'll also win cash prizes.

How to Qualify

6) Players ranked 17th and lower aren't necessarily out of the running! In the event one of the top 16 players can't make the Regional Finals, the next ranked player will be notified and asked if they would like to attend. This process will be done until 16 players per region have committed.

7) Other than trying to qualify for the Regional Final, the Online Qualifying Tournament is important because there is a second way to reach the World Championship. Beyond the 6 players from each region that will qualify for the World Championship from winning the Regional Final, there will also be 7 wild card spots for the World Championship. At the World Championship these 7 available spots will be open for players to buy-in for $250. These buy-in spots will be offered to the first 7 players on the wild card list. If any of those players don't want to buy in, then the next player in line on the wild card list will be offered the buy-in spot.

Regional Finals

The Regional Finals will be held on Friday, October 1st at the Cubby Bear in Chicago. There will be 16 players in each of the 4 regions. Players will compete in a double elimination, bracket style, shootout tournament against the other 15 players in the region. Both the Big Buck Hunter® Pro Open Season and Big Buck Safari® Tournaments will be running at the same time and will start at 7:00 PM. Please arrive with enough time to register.

The top 6 from each region will qualify for the World Championship the next day. If you don't finish in the top 6, you still have a chance to buy your way into the World Championship for $250. The buy-in spots will be offered first to the top 7 players on the Wild Card list. We will continue down the list until there are 7 players signed up.

All 24 players per game (6 players x 4 regions), 7 buy-in players per game, and 1 Australian player will make up the 32 players that will compete in the World Championship the next day.

On Saturday, the tournament will run exactly the same as the Regional Finals, except that instead of competing against players in your region, you will be competing against players from across the country.

Any player that doesn't make it to the World Championship is still invited to come on Saturday to cheer on your fellow Buck Hunters and to enjoy the food and open bar. Friends and Family are also invited. We're looking forward to seeing you at the 2010 World Championships. Good Luck and please contact us with any questions.

Determining Wild Cards

There are 4 regions, so that means there are 4 leaderboards (one for each region). After the Online Qualifying Tournament is over, all 4 leaderboards will be combined into one and everyone will be ranked on a single National Leaderboard based on their cumulative scores from the Online Qualifying Tournament. The player with the highest cumulative score will be ranked number 1 and on down the line. This will be the initial wild card list. After the Regional Final, the 24 players that qualify for the World Championship (6 per region), will be removed from the wild card list, since they are already qualified for the World Championship. The remaining players are the players that have a chance at the wild card spots. The first criteria is that the player showed up to the Regional Final and competed. If they didn't then that player's name will be removed from the list. After those names are removed, the top 7 players will be named the wild card winners and will be invited to buy-in to the World Championship. The wild card winners can come from any region and will be the 7 highest remaining cumulative scores throughout the country. So it's important to do well during the Online Qualifying Tournament because it can affect more than just your seed at the Regional Final.

Online Qualifying Tournament

The Online Qualifying Tournament will be a two trek (10 sites + 2 bonus) online tournament. The Online Qualifying Tournament can be played at any CoinUp® connected Big Buck Safari® games. The Online Qualifying Tournament will take the place of the August National Tournament and will run from August 1st – August 29th.

The country will be broken down into 4 regions (North, South, East, and West). Each region will have its own Online Qualifying Tournament. Players will compete in the tournament against other players from their region. All scores will be reflected on the online leaderboard. Players can play as many times as they would like.

New for 2010! There will be two ways to rank on the tournament leaderboard. The top 10 places per region are reserved for individual high score. A minimum of 10 games must be played for a high score to count. The highest score out of all games played by a player will be the one that gets ranked on the leaderboard. If a player's highest score isn't high enough to rank in the top ten, that player can still make the leaderboard with his/her cumulative score. All places from 11th and beyond will be ranked by cumulative score. This means that every score from every tournament game that a player plays will be combined to reflect his/her cumulative score. So every time a player plays a tournament, that players score will increase. The player with the highest cumulative score will be ranked in 11th place and then on down the line.

Regional Finals

The Regional Finals will be a one trek (5 sites + 1 bonus), head-to-head, double elimination shootout mode tournament. The Championship match (only the Championship match) within the Regional Finals will be a three trek (15 sites + 3 bonus), head-to-head shootout mode tournament. There will be 16 players per region participating in the Finals ranked from 1-16. The rankings will be determined by the scores that were recorded from the Regional Online Qualifying Tournament. Once the players are ranked, the bracket will be set up. Brackets are subject to change if not all 16 players attend.

The top 6 players from each region will qualify for the World Championship in Chicago on Saturday, October 2nd. In addition, cash prizes will be awarded to those 6 players. Players must be present at the World Championship in order to claim their prize from the Regional Final. Each Regional Champion will be seeded 1-4 and will be ranked depending on their score from the Regional Online Qualifying Tournament. The Regional Champion that had the highest score from the Regional Online Qualifying Tournament will be ranked number 1 overall. The rest will follow suit. All of the players that took second place at the Regional Finals will be seeded 5-8. The same ranking system will be used to position these players in order of score from the Regional Online Qualifying Tournament. The same will happen for all of the players that took third – sixth places at the Regional Finals. The Australian Player will be seeded 25th. All Wild Card (buy-in) players will be seeded 26th -32nd. Once the players are ranked, the bracket will be set up. Brackets are subject to change if not all 32 players attend.
